Peach Crisp

I'm at my mom's house, where there has been a bumper crop of peaches. Lots and lots of peaches all over the place! Yesterday we spent all day canning peaches. This morning I headed back over to do some more canning. But first I took several of the more ripe peaches, and made this yummy crisp.

Peach Crisp
5 cups fresh or frozen peaches, sliced (if using frozen, thaw but do not drain)
2-4 tbsp. sugar
1/2 cup regular oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Dash nutmeg
Dash black pepper (optional, this is my "secret ingredient")
1/4 cup butter or margarine

Peel and slice peaches if using fresh, or thaw if using frozen. Do not drain frozen peaches. Place in a 9-inch round cake pan. Stir in sugar.

In a mixing bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and pepper if desired. Cut in butter. Sprinkle over peaches.

Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes, or 40 minutes if using thawed frozen peaches.

Serve warm with ice cream!

  1. I've been enjoying the great peaches this time of year as well. But so far haven't done any baking with them. I'll have to get busy. Sounds like a great recipe!

  2. this was one of my favorite things as a girl. My mother always let me stir up the topping and say that I had "made" it. I was so proud!
